Waking Mars (formerly Lost Mars)

The game I’m working on with Tiger Style was renamed to Waking Mars a while back but I wanted to wait until we hit a big milestone to post again. We hit it! We submitted the game to the iTunes App Store and have reason to believe it will be available for purchase on March 1st! In other pretty sweet news, the game is in the 2012 Independent Games Festival with nominations for Best Mobile Game and Excellence in Audio!

Hero Academy

Hero Academy!I’m a little late posting this, but I’m happy to announce the launch of another great game I worked on by the kick-ass team at Robot Entertainment called Hero Academy! It’s a turn-based strategy (tactics) game you play online with friends and other people. It’s their first time to release a mobile game, and it’s already doing really well.

Matt and I shared sound design duties while I ended up doing the music for the title screen and the trailer.

Robot is one of my favorite teams to work with and I hope to keep working on this title as they add more content. They’re awesome at giving feedback and working with us to create a final sound instead of leaving it up to us or dictating it too heavily.

Click here to check out Hero Academy on the App Store. It’s free to try!

WaveShaper for iPad

My friend Damien Di Fede’s iPad app, WaveShaper is now available on the App Store. Damien showed me his prototype during GDC 2011 and I loved it so I offered to help him with it in any way I could. We talked a lot about the interface and what kinds of features it should have. I ended up suggesting a few things and I think they helped make it a better product, so I’m very proud that he let me help. More info about the app is available on WaveShaperApp.com

Lost Mars

I’m pleased to report that I’ve been working with Randy, David and the rest of Tiger Style games (Spider: The Secret of Bryce Manor, iOS) on their second title. It’s called Lost Mars and is about a manned mission to Mars 50 years from now where you play as Liang, an astronaut and scientist who is about to make contact with extraterrestrial life.

I met David through Brandon Boyer, Independent Games Festival Chairman and creator of Offworld, the short-lived but adored game blog. We all live in Austin and Brandon was hosting a monthly get together at a local bar. Tiger Style’s original sound guy had to back out on game #2 due to being busy with other things so David got in touch with me through Brandon around Feb 2010 and I’ve been on the team ever since.

I’m really happy with the sounds I’ve been able to put in the game so far, but there’s still a long way to go. A lot of content is being added rapidly and I’ve got to keep up with revising and polishing existing sounds while creating plenty of new ones. Still, it’s been a great time working with Tiger Style and I’m really excited to get this game out there and let the world experience it.

Monster Hunter Tri

You know what’s a great game? Monster Hunter Tri for the Wii

I now understand why systems sell like crazy in Japan when a new Monster Hunter is launched on it. The game is an awesome mash up of 3rd person melee combat, gear collecting RPG, and a nature exploration vibe of something like (I assume, never played) Endless Ocean or Afrika.

The combat is easy to learn, tough to master and constantly evolving with every new monster type you encounter. You unlock new types of weapons as you work your way up the “hunter’s guild” quests which send you after bigger and badder monsters. The scale is insane! First you’re hunting these little raptor-type dinosaur things that are about 2/3rds your height and eventually… well just look at this: [kotaku.com]

I’m helping out a pal from Tripwire Interactive on his side project- a game company meant to donate its profits to charity. It’s called Greater Good Games. Go check out the game they’re doing called Break Blocks and throw em a buck or ten.
